How's your vision?

Guess what? I'm not talking about how good your eyes are!

Leaders must have a vision for the future. Simply, that means they should be able to tell you what their picture of the future looks like. Without a vision we are simply working in the day to day, much like a hamster on a wheel. Running like crazy but not getting anywhere. Now some of you are thinking "it's not up to me to develop a vision for the organisation". I would simply say "what's your vision for your department, your team, this year's or this month's performance"? Another great question is "what's your vision for yourself"?

Think about when your family is planning a great holiday - it starts with them imagining themselves on the beach or snow skiing or trekking or whatever. It starts with a vision - then you work out how to make it happen!

An important part of the Licence to Lead Leadership Development Program is assisting aspiring leaders to develop a vision for the future. All of our programs - speaking, mentoring and training have this as a core element. Believe it or not, there are proven techniques to help you develop this skill - and it's essential to effective leadership. Give me a call if you would like to discuss.

Cheers

Greg
